Aston Villa ‘aggressive’ to agree Deadline Day transfer for Keilan Quinn with West Brom
We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Aston Villa have shown an “aggressive approach” to signing young players in the transfer window after agreeing a deal for Keilan Quinn with West Brom, according to Dan Bardell.
The Athletic journalist Jacob Tanswell tweeted on Thursday (1 February) that the highly-rated midfielder will join Villa’s academy immediately.
He added that the Villans will pay the Baggies around £1million to sign the 16-year-old, with the idea being that he will join their scholarship phase next year.
Bardell believes it’s “quite strange” that the club have managed to secure so many youngsters from the Albion academy as Quinn joins the list of names to have made the switch from the Hawthorns.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “He sounds quite highly rated and basically, at the moment, if someone’s got West Bromwich Albion academy on their CV, Villa seem to be able to sign them.
“That seems to be the way it’s been for the last few years. They seem to be trying to add to their ranks. It feels quite an aggressive approach during this window.
“They had a really aggressive approach in the summer of 2020 to signing young academy players from other teams. They signed a load of youngsters quite aggressively from EFL teams. It feels like they’re kind of doing that again, going through an aggressive recruitment drive in the youth setup.
“It’s no surprise to see them sign someone else from the West Brom academy because they just seem to have done it so many times over the last few years, with Tim Iroegbunam, Rico Richards and now Quinn.
“Louie Barry was in the West Brom academy and Morgan Rogers as well, so even if they’re not signing someone directly from the West Brom academy, it feels like they’ve been there at some point.
“It’s quite strange for two teams that are Midlands rivals.”
