Aston Villa transfer news as likelihood of Morgan Rogers completing Villa Park move from Middlesbrough today shared
We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Dan Bardell expects Aston Villa to announce the signing of Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough on Wednesday (31 January).
Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that Villa have agreed a deal with the Championship side worth an initial £8million, potentially rising to £16million in add-ons for the 21-year-old.
It added that the English forward, who Boro signed for £1.5million from Manchester City last summer, is set to undergo a medical ahead of his move to Villa Park on Wednesday.
Bardell believes the Villans will want to announce the signing before deadline day (1 February) following their 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Tuesday (30 January).
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I’ve been at Sky Sports today and they’re saying he’s due to arrive at Bodymoor Heath for a medical.
“I would expect that to happen today and go through without a hitch. I think because they lost last night, they would, potentially, want to announce it today at some point, rather than it go through to deadline day.
“They finally had the offer accepted for £8million, rising to £16million with various add-ons. I suppose £8million sounds cheap, but then £16million sounds pretty expensive with all the add-ons. But if Emery wants him, I think ultimately Villa fans will back the purchase.
“He was quite clear last night that we’re lacking a bit of freshness off the bench, something to invigorate the attack. Zaniolo came on, Bailey came on. I presume Bailey must be carrying a knock or he’s not playing for tactical reasons because, when he came on, he looked absolutely electric.

“It seems as though Duran is going to be out for a few months until April. There already was space for another attacking player, but with all those things in mind now and the fact we’re stumbling a little bit at the moment, I think having another option who can play all across the attack will be really helpful for us.
“He’s coming in a good moment at Middlesbrough, he’s been playing under a manager who’s got a good ethos and likes to play football and attack.
“He’s developed his game really strongly in the last six months. Hopefully, he can come to Villa and continue that.”
