Dan Bardell shares what he was told about Aston Villa interest in Felipe Anderson free transfer at Villa Park
We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
There is nothing in the rumours linking Aston Villa with a move for Lazio star Felipe Anderson, according to Dan Bardell.
Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas reported on 4 January that Villa have been showing an interest in signing the 30-year-old former West Ham man.
He added that the Villans are looking into bringing the Brazilian to Villa Park on a free transfer this summer as he is free to speak to clubs outside of Italy this month about a pre-contract agreement.
Bardell believes a deal for Anderson isn’t going to happen as he doesn’t fit the profile of players Unai Emery would be looking to sign and Emiliano Buendia will return from his injury next season.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “There is absolutely nothing in that at all. I’ve heard that it’s not one that’s on Villa’s radar and it wouldn’t make sense.
“He’s played in the Premier League before at West Ham, it didn’t go brilliantly, albeit he was okay. Certain players just suit certain clubs and leagues and Felipe Anderson’s had two good spells with Lazio.

“But when he tried to move, he even went to Porto for a spell as well, it hasn’t really come together for him.
“Even on a free, Buendia’s coming back next season, Villa aren’t going to go and get someone like that on a free transfer, it’s just not going to happen. There’s nothing in that at all, in my opinion.”
