Bryan King shares Jacob Ramsey transfer verdict ahead of clash vs Newcastle

Villa News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent over 10 years as a scout at Aston Villa and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent six years on Tottenham’s recruitment team and eight years scouting at Everton…

Bryan King believes Jacob Ramsey will be left out of the Aston Villa squad against Newcastle amid transfer speculation surrounding the player.

As per David Ornstein (via The Athletic, 29 January), the Magpies have made an approach to sign the England Under-21 international from Villa.

Offers of more than £50million could tempt Unai Emery’s side to sell the 22-year-old midfielder.

Newcastle’s approach to Aston Villa arrives with the two teams set to face off in the Premier League on 30 January at Villa Park.

There are perhaps some mind games at play from Eddie Howe’s side, and King believes that whether or not Ramsey is involved on Tuesday will go a long way in telling where the midfielder will be playing his football come February.

Speaking to Villa News, King said: “Well I am certain that Newcastle are trying to unsettle Ramsey before the game, that is for sure.

“With a move to Newcastle in his head, the big money, it certainly could have an impact on his performance. Unai Emery would perhaps be wise to leave him out now. If he doesn’t play tonight, then there is every possibility that he could be going to Newcastle.

“This is one of the players who could raise significant money for the club. His sale could raise funds for two or three additions to the squad.”
