Bryan King shares Bertrand Traore Aston Villa transfer verdict amid Unai Emery comments

Villa News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent over 10 years as a scout at Aston Villa and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent six years on Tottenham’s recruitment team and eight years scouting at Everton…

Bryan King believes Bertrand Traore will remain at Aston Villa this month given his form on the international stage with Burkina Faso.

The winger has scored twice in the current Africa Cup of Nations tournament, with his nation progressing into the knockout stages after finishing second in Group D.

But the 28-year-old has made just six appearances in all competitions under Unai Emery this season, with zero goals to his name.

Speaking to Villa News, King said: “I don’t think Emery will sell him. If he comes back with decent form, he gives them another option.”

Aston Villa have certainly improved their attack under the Spaniard, with Moussa Diaby brought to the club in the summer.

Emiliano Buendia is currently out injured, but along with Diaby, the likes of Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey have impressed.

Their top displays, along with Traore’s lack of minutes, have led to speculation about the winger’s future at Villa Park.

And if Emery’s recent comments are anything to go by, the Burkina Faso attacker doesn’t have long left at the Midlands club.

As per The Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell (12 January), both Traore and Calum Chambers have been told that they can leave Villa Park this month.
