Aston Villa reach agreement with Middlesbrough for Morgan Rogers, final details outlined – Fabrizio Romano
Aston Villa have reached a verbal agreement with Middlesbrough over a deal for Morgan Rogers, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Villans are said to have had two previous bids rejected for the 21-year-old-forward, who only joined Boro from Manchester City last summer.
However, Romano posted on Twitter on Tuesday (30 January) that an agreement is in place and Rogers is to undergo a medical.
“Morgan Rogers to Aston Villa, here we go! Verbal agreement in place with Middlesbrough for talented English winger,” Romano said.
“After final proposal, Boro accepted and player now leaving training ground to travel. Medical tests booked next 24h, signing imminent for #AVFC.”
Good business
Villa were clearly desperate to sign Rogers this month and they now appear to have landed their man.
Rogers has been superb in the Championship for Middlesbrough this month and looks like he could slot straight into the Villa side.
The England age-grade international has seven goals and eight assists in 20 starts in all competitions.
That tally might not sound mind-blowing, but he has really found his stride over the past couple of months and netted against Chelsea last week.
Villa will be paying an eight-figure sum for Rogers, but they have been wise with their transfer business in recent windows and must be trusted.
Ollie Watkins will not be dislodged as Unai Emery’s first-choice striker, but Rogers is a good back-up and also a longer-term option.
The youngster is also capable of playing on the left-hand side, so he can more than play his part at Villa Park for years to come.
In other Aston Villa news, Dan Bardell has shared the likelihood of two players departing Villa Park before the window closes.
