Aston Villa on verge of signing Australia international Joe Gauci in late January transfer – Sky Sports News

Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of goalkeeper Joe Gauci from Adelaide United, according to Sky Sports News.

The broadcaster reported in their online transfer centre (30 January) that Unai Emery’s side are close to completing a move for the 23-year-old shot-stopper, who moved to Adelaide from Melbourne City in 2020.

Gauci is an Australia international and is currently competing with his nation at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar.

It comes following news via Fabrizio Romano (30 January) that the Villans have a verbal agreement in place with Middlesbrough for the transfer of Morgan Rogers.

Busy day

It has been a very exciting afternoon for Aston Villa supporters.

After such a positive season so far for Emery’s men, the profiles of these potential signings certainly demonstrate that the club are looking to back their manager and build a squad which can compete with the Premier League’s top teams in the long term.

Emiliano Martinez is a key player at Villa Park between the sticks, and certainly a big personality behind the scenes, but the Argentina international is now 31 and won’t be around forever.

Signing a young goalkeeper who is already established at international level is incredibly exciting and demonstrates positive forward-thinking by the club.

If Gauci can fulfil his potential and live up to expectations upon his arrival in the Premier League then this January could be looked back on as a very transformative one for Aston Villa, especially if Rogers also lives up to the billing.

In other Aston Villa news, one pundit believes Emery could sanction a last-minute sale for one player at the club.
