Aston Villa could soon be ready to sell Jhon Duran, with Unai Emery’s side already receiving an approach from West Ham United this month, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported on its website on Thursday (25 January) that Villa, who rebuffed the enquiry from David Moyes’s side, are expected to continue talks for Morgan Rogers and if successful, they may consider offers for Duran to leave Villa Park.

Chelsea are continuing to show an interest in the Colombian forward, but Emery wants to ensure that he has enough forward cover for the remainder of the season and so far has been unwilling to part ways with the 20-year-old.

Aston Villa have made an improved bid for Middlesbrough’s Rogers and whether or not that deal gets over the line could be key to whether or not Chelsea or West Ham get their man in the January window.

Sensible approach

It may not have been the most exciting window at Villa Park, but Emery and his team behind the scenes have approached this month incredibly sensibly and have left themselves in a strong position for the remainder of the season.

While Duran has been little more than a support option so far this season, the forward could have a huge role to play for Aston Villa in the coming months, especially if Ollie Watkins was to pick up an injury as he is the only other recognised striker.

However, should Rogers make the switch to Villa Park before the transfer deadline, Aston Villa may well have enough cover to allow the 20-year-old to move away, without putting their own push for the Champions League places in jeopardy.
