Lucas Digne exit mooted as Aston Villa offered chance to sign Leonardo Spinazzola at Villa Park

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

The door could be open for Aston Villa to sign Roma left-back Leonardo Spinazzola if Lucas Digne leaves Villa Park this month, according to Ty Bracey.

Italian news outlet CalcioMercato reported on 8 January that Villa have been offered the chance to bring in the 30-year-old Italian international in the January transfer window.

It comes as the French newspaper L’Equipe revealed on 12 January that Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have made an approach to sign Digne.

Bracey believes it could be worth moving on the 30-year-old Frenchman if someone is available on lower wages, with the left-back currently earning a reported £163,000 a week at Villa Park.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I think it all depends on if Lucas Digne stays. Obviously, he’s the highest earner for us.

“If that’s something they want off the books and they can get someone in who’s a bit cheaper then, by all means, do it. But I don’t think it’s somewhere where we’re short, absolutely not.

“But again, I guess it’s down to whether Lucas Digne is potentially going to be leaving. I don’t know.

“If he is, then I would say that explains the door being opened for Spinazzola.”
