Kosta Nedeljkovic Aston Villa contract signed as Fabrizio Romano shares ‘here we go’

Kosta Nedeljkovic has signed his contract at Aston Villa to complete his January transfer from Red Star Belgrade, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist posted on his personal X account on Monday (22 January) a photo of the right-back holding up an Aston Villa top at the club’s training ground and has given the deal his stamp of approval saying the “here we go” is now confirmed.

Nedeljkovic would be Unai Emery’s first signing of the January transfer window and is set to return to Red Star for the second half of the season on loan, before joining up with the rest of Villa’s squad for pre-season next summer.

Discussing the deal, Romano wrote: “Kosta Nedeljković has signed the contract as new Aston Villa player from Red Star Belgrade. Here we go, now confirmed.”

Over the line

It may not be the most exciting January addition, but after a slow start to the month, Aston Villa have finally got an incoming sorted by the looks of things as Nedeljkovic is a Villa player.

The defender will add some much-needed depth to the right side of Emery’s defence as currently, it is a straight shoot-out between Matty Cash and Ezri Konsa on the flank, with very few alternatives waiting in the wings at Villa Park.

Hopefully, Nedeljkovic will have a strong second half of the campaign back in Belgrade and will be able to return to England fighting fit and ready to make his mark on the Premier League come the start of next season.

Until then, Cash and Konsa have to show Emery why they deserve to hold down their places in the Spanish manager’s starting XI and most supporters will hope that such competition will spur them on for the remainder of the campaign.
