Ex-Aston Villa employee moots loan-to-buy transfer for Unai Emery to sign Borussia Dortmund ace Giovanni Reyna
Villa News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent over 10 years as a scout at Aston Villa and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent six years on Tottenham’s recruitment team and eight years scouting at Everton…
Bryan King has mooted a six-month loan deal at Aston Villa for Borussia Dortmund and USA attacker Giovanni Reyna.
As per FootballTransfers (17 January), the Midlands club have enquired about the potential signing of the player, who has 24 USA caps to his name.
The publication added that numerous clubs have made enquiries about the 21-year-old, who is for sale at Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking to Villa News, King said: “Borussia Dortmund is not a bad club to learn your trade. They do things the correct way, bring players on. There is a big list of quality players that have been through Dortmund, that’s for sure.
“I would imagine that it’s a player that not only Villa have looked at, several clubs would have looked at him I’d have thought, with his experience.
“By the sounds of it, he needs games, needs to play regularly. It sounds to me like a six-month loan is possible if he moves now, with an option to buy.”
Reyna has struggled at Dortmund this season, with the attacker failing to score from his 13 appearances in all competitions.

But he has not been playing regularly for the German club, who earlier this month signed fellow attacker Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United.
Reyna could therefore make an exit from the Bundesliga outfit in the current transfer window in order to secure regular minutes.
In other Aston Villa news, 83% heroics are not enough to save one player, he is destined to exit the club.
