Aston Villa: Diego Carlos exit mooted amid Monchi interest in Mario Hermoso at Villa Park

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Ty Bracey has mooted a potential exit for Diego Carlos after Aston Villa have been linked with Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso.

Spanish news outlet Todo Fichajes reported on its website on Tuesday (16 January) that the Spanish international will sign for Villa once his contract expires with the La Liga club unless an “extraodinary” offer comes in for him.

It added that the Villans’ director Monchi twice tried to sign the 28-year-old centre-back, who has made 25 appearances this season, when he was the sporting director at Sevilla.

Bracey believes the club are only like to bring in a new central defender if Carlos leaves Villa Park in the future as they are currently well stocked in that position.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I’ve seen that rumour, but we don’t know the plans for the likes of Diego Carlos in the future.

“We don’t know if he’s going to leave or whether he might stay. It’s a tough one.

“I would say something like that will probably only happen if another centre-back left.

“I think it’s a situation where a one-in-one-out policy would be in place if I’m honest.”
