Aston Villa FFP loophole mooted as Kosta Nedeljkovic closes in on Villa Park transfer

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Ty Bracey believes Aston Villa might be able to register Kosta Nedeljkovic as an academy player as he looks to seal a move from Red Star Belgrade.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Monday (15 January) that Villa are closing in on a €9million (£7.7million) move for the 18-year-old from the Serbian club after scouting him for a “long time”.

He added that the Serbian right-back, who has made 18 appearances so far this season, is set to remain on loan with Red Star once he completes his switch to Villa Park.

Bracey believes the defender’s age means the deal might not fall under FFP as he backed Unai Emery and the scouting team to make the right decisions in the transfer market.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I think he’s one for the future. I think even though he’s played Champions League football, we might be able to register him as an academy player.

“I think because of his age, we might be able to do that and that would mean he doesn’t fall under FFP, but I’m not 100 per cent certain on that.

“If the manager and the scouting team are giving the thumbs up to get it done, then I’m behind them.

“They’ve made good decisions so far and I’m strongly behind them.”

In other Aston Villa news, a broadcaster wants Emery to sign up the friend of a Villa star for £10.7million this month.
