Douglas Luiz sends two-word message to Aston Villa Women star Alisha Lehmann after 3-0 loss v Everton Women

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has sent a two-word social media message to Aston Villa Women star Alisha Lehmann.

It comes after Carla Ward’s side lost 3-0 to Everton Women in the FA Women’s Cup fourth round on Saturday (13 January).

Katja Snoeijs netted a brace and Karoline Olesen also scored for the visitors, with Lehmann having come on as a substitute for the hosts.

Taking to Instagram after the loss, Lehmann wrote: “Really hard and disappointing game today, focus on Friday from now on.”

Among those commenting on the post about focusing on the upcoming match against Leicester City Women was Luiz, who wrote: “My girl.”

Disappointing

Aston Villa Women returned from their winter break ready to hit the ground running after a disappointing start to the season.

But it has started off very badly for Ward and her players, with the Midlands club not putting up much of a fight against Everton.

Manager Ward unsurprisingly opted for a very strong starting XI in a bid to win the tie on home soil, but it was the Merseyside outfit who left victorious.

The boss must now shake down her players and get them ready for another huge clash, with Aston Villa Women travelling to Leicester City Women in Women’s Super League (WSL) action on Friday (19 January).

Immediately after that is a shot at redemption away from the WSL, with Aston Villa Women visiting Sunderland Women in an FA WSL Cup group stage clash next Wednesday (24 January).

Lehmann will certainly be keen to have an impact on those matches, whether that be from the bench or from the start.

In other Aston Villa Women news, Ward has shared an “absolutely imperative” January transfer admission.
