Aston Villa player ratings v Everton: Ollie Watkins flops

Aston Villa played out a 0-0 loss against Everton in the Premier League at Goodison Park on Sunday, 14 January, with neither side managing to score.

Unai Emery’s side would have wanted to score, but failed in their efforts to find the back of the net.

Villa find themselves in third place behind Manchester City and Liverpool in the race to secure the Premier League title.

Here are our player ratings for this one:

Emi Martinez – 7

Made just two saves but did not have to do much as the defenders ahead of him kept it tight and did not give too much leeway to the Everton attackers, per Sofascore.

Ezri Konsa – 6

Has made the right back position his own at Villa Park and this was another impressive display from the defender. He lost three of his five attempted ground duels and it really was not anything worth writing home about.

Diego Carlos – 3

An underwhelming display from the Brazilian despite the clean sheet. Lost both of his aerial duels with a 0 per cent accuracy rate and also won just one of his five aerial duels. Had it been another opponent, Carlos surely would have been punished.

Aston Villa

Clement Langlet – 6

Completed just five of his 14 attempted passes and while these aren’t eye-catching numbers, he surely would have wanted to do better. He did win all four of his ground duels and defensively proved that he’s a force to be reckoned with.

Alex Moreno – 6

Offered a decent attacking threat but would have liked to be more accurate with his crosses on the day. Completing just two out of seven of his cross attempts will undoubtedly have been below par for the Aston Villa left-back on the day.

Leon Bailey – 4

Lost two of his ground duels and one of his aerial duels and even offensively, struggled to offer too much to the Villa attacking setup. His long passing was also off the park and there’s certainly much to improve in his game for him.

Boubacar Kamara – 7

Really came into his groove in the second period after a relatively underwhelming first half of football for Villa. Completed five out of six of his long passes, won seven out of 11 ground duels and even completed two out of his attempted three dribbles. Emery undoubtedly appeared to have had a word with him at the break.

Aston Villa

Douglas Luiz – 8

Completed 100 per cent of his dribbles as he absolutely bossed the Villa midfield. He even amassed a pass accuracy of 90 per cent and was one of the busiest Villa players on the day. While he may have not won most of his ground duels, Emery undoubtedly will wax lyrical over his performance.

John Mcginn – 6

Failed to win an aerial duel for Aston Villa but offered a lot off the ball for Emery’s side. He even won 50 per cent of his ground duels and found himself in interesting goal-scoring chances which could have, on another day, led to something serious.

Moussa Diaby – 6

Led the line alongside, Watkins and one would imagine that he would’ve looked to threaten but failed to really get into the game. He might have enjoyed an accuracy of above 90 per cent but he’ll certainly not be impressed with his efforts out there.

Ollie Watkins – 5

Completed just 13 passes all game for Aston Villa and Emery certainly will not be proud of the fact. He also had one shot on target and on another day, had he had more moments, he would’ve fancied himself to score a goal and perhaps the winner.
