‘Clever’ new Aston Villa transfer mooted in January as Premier League twist emerges – Sky Sports Journalist
We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Dan Bardell expects it to be a quiet January transfer window for Aston Villa after the Everton points deduction “worried” other Premier League clubs.
The Toffees were handed a 10-point deduction in November after being found guilty of breaching the league’s profit and sustainability rules.
The Times reported on 2 January that the Blues will find out this month whether they will receive a second penalty for another potential rule breach, with Nottingham Forest and Chelsea also at risk.

Bardell believes Villa probably won’t look to do much in the transfer window unless a “clever loan” comes up as their squad is “well set” heading into the second half of the season.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “At the moment, I would expect it to be a really quiet January for Villa and actually generally in the Premier League.
“I expect it to be pretty quiet because clubs have seen what’s happened to Everton and they are worried. They don’t want it to happen to them.
“I know Forest are working with the FA at the moment. They think they are okay, but I’m pretty sure Everton thought they were okay and then suddenly they’ve lost 10 points.

“It’s a difficult time for Premier League clubs at the moment. You see Tottenham sold Harry Kane for £100million, but to get a forward in this month, they’re using the loan markets.
“At most, I would expect Villa to do something like what Tottenham have done there if a clever loan comes up.
“But everyone loves the transfer window and Villa fans think that there’s loads of areas that Villa need to improve, but Villa are pretty well set and I don’t really expect anything.”
