Ex-Aston Villa scout shares Kalvin Phillips transfer verdict as ‘enhance’ opinion made
Villa News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent over 10 years as a scout at Aston Villa and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent six years on Tottenham’s recruitment team and eight years scouting at Everton…
Former Aston Villa scout Bryan King says he would be making an enquiry to out-of-favour Manchester City ace Kalvin Phillips this January as he would “enhance” the squad.
England midfielder Phillips is reportedly in hot demand during the transfer window and Villa were named as one of the clubs interested in his signature by Mirror Football back on October 28.
Former Villa employee King thinks that Unai Emery should proceed with caution this month when it comes to incomings as he will not want to rock the apple cart.

But he is a big fan of Phillips and suggested he is a name he would have been putting forward as he could improve the team on the whole.
Speaking to Villa News, he said: “If I was Villa I’d have had an enquiry about the boy Phillips at City.
“I think anybody could (benefit from him). I think he’s the sort of player who would enhance any club, he’s got good energy, he motivates you know, he wants to play and he isn’t playing regularly.

“Once you have a team that’s doing well, it’s nice to bring in a fresh face but you don’t want to disrupt things too much because then players become unsure about their own positions.
“At this moment in time he seems to be getting the best out of the squad he’s got. So maybe one or two additions might be good for the club, and put players on their toes but I don’t think he should tinker with it too much.
“The players have a belief in him and he has a belief in the players he’s got that’s shown by the results he’s had.
“Second or third in the league you’ve got to be happy with what you’ve got haven’t you?“
In other Aston Villa news, Emery is reportedly unhappy with the attitude of one member of his squad.
