Aston Villa could follow Brighton and Brentford models to sign the next wonderkid

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Ty Bracey has named Brighton and Brentford as two clubs Aston Villa could look to follow if they want to sign a wonderkid.

The Seagulls have generated huge profits in recent years following the sales of several of their star players, including Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, Marc Cucurella and Ben White.

The Bees, meanwhile, have become notorious for signing players on low transfer fees and turning them into Premier League stars, with the likes of Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbuemo catching the eye over the past couple of seasons.

Bracey believes it would be “great” for Villa to be in the market for players who come out of nowhere and end up “spinning the league on its head” with their performances.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “There is absolutely no harm in having a good scouting system to allow you to sign a wonderkid, someone who is under the radar and hasn’t been heard of.

“You’ve got clubs like Brighton and Brentford who very much do business like that. They get those players who you haven’t heard of. Who had heard of Mitoma before he signed for Brighton?

“If Villa can be in the market to sign those players, who come from nowhere for a good fee and then end up spinning the league on its head by doing great things and there’s lots of eyes on them, that’s a great thing.

“When you sign those players, who aren’t on astronomical fees, it’s not a massive risk in itself.”
