Exit-linked Leander Dendoncker could remain at Aston Villa in January amid ‘sticky situation’
We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Leander Dendoncker could have a future at Aston Villa up until the summer despite the exit talk surrounding him, according to Ty Bracey.
The Belgian international, who has been linked with a move away from Villa in the January transfer window, had been struggling to earn regular minutes under Unai Emery this season.
But the 28-year-old midfielder’s situation appears to have changed over the past few weeks, having featured in four out of the past five Premier League matches and started in the 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Saturday (6 January).

Bracey believes it could be wise to keep hold of Dendoncker during this window as the Villans are presented with a “sticky situation” when they are without Douglas Luiz and Boubacar Kamara, who was recently suspended for three matches following his sending-off against Brentford on 17 December.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “He could maybe have a future at Villa up until the end of the season.
“I spoke previously about the fact I wouldn’t be surprised if he left during this window. But if we need him for the depth, then we need him for the depth.

“It puts us in a bit of a sticky situation when Douglas Luiz and Kamara are out, so it’s probably wise to hold on to him and recruit in the summer if that’s the plan.
“But we will see in the window what goes on.”
