‘Really hard’ twist as Aston Villa to raise as much as possible in double sale – BBC pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park.

Alan Hutton says Aston Villa will simply want to raise as much money as possible if they sell Leander Dendoncker and Calum Chambers this month.

Both players have been linked with moves away from Villa Park during the January transfer window due to a lack of minutes.

Dendoncker has started just one of Villa’s 20 Premier League games this season, while making a further seven outings from the subs’ bench.

Versatile defender Chambers has played only twice in all competitions in 2023-24, meanwhile, both coming in the Europa Conference League.

According to journalist Dean Jones, via GiveMeSport [3 January], the pair could be moved on by the Villans over the coming weeks.

Hutton, speaking to Villa News, is unsure exactly how much Villa can get for each but does not expect Dendoncker to struggle for options.

“It’s hard to put a valuation on them because they’ve not played a lot of football. Villa will obviously want as much as possible,” he said.

“It’s a really hard one to be honest. They’re two guys who know the league really well.

“I don’t think they’re going to be starting at Villa so it’s an opportunity to move on.

“Chambers is a difficult one because he comes in and fits in well, but where’s he going to go? Dendoncker will likely get a chance in Europe.”

In other Aston Villa news, Hutton has predicted another player tipped to depart Villa Park will start versus Middlesbrough.
