Ex-Aston Villa Scout reacts as deal agreed for January exit at Villa Park
Villa News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent over 10 years as a scout at Aston Villa and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent six years on Tottenham’s recruitment team and eight years scouting at Everton…
Aston Villa midfielder Finn Azaz will be a “good investment” for Middlesbrough amid reports he has had a have a medical at the Championship Club, Bryan King has said.
Azaz has spent the past 18 months on loan at Plymouth Argyle, helping the club to promotion from League One and helping the side adjust to life in the Championship.
However, PlymouthLive reported on 3 January that Middlesbrough are now set to sign the former West Brom midfielder for £2.5million.
Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas then stated the same day that Azaz was undergoing a medical with the Championship club.
King, speaking to Villa News, said it was “unlucky” for Plymouth but thinks it could be a good piece of business from Boro.
“I think it’s certainly good work for agents if they can get it and unlucky for Plymouth but maybe a good investment for Middlesbrough,” he said.

“Certainly £2.5million is better than a kick up the backside, isn’t it? I’ve not heard a lot (about him).
“If Aston Villa are in a position to do that they obviously don’t think the boy had a future at Villa that’s for sure.”
Azaz has seven goals and five assists from 26 Championship matches this season, form that alerted the attention of Michael Carrick’s side.
According to SofaScore, Azaz has also created 10 big chances for his teammates and is averaging 2.4 key passes per game.
In other Aston Villa news, the club have clearly stated their intentions amid contract talks with Leon Bailey.
