Aston Villa transfer twist as Jhon Duran proposed to AC Milan in January

Aston Villa attacker Jhon Duran has been proposed to AC Milan in a possible January transfer move, with the Italian giant targeting new strikers, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Italian journalist reported via his website on 2 January that AC Milan are keen on a player with Duran’s profile and age, with the 20-year-old high on their list.

However, to get the deal for the Colombian over the line, the Serie A club would first have to sell one of their non-EU players to fit in with squad registration rules.

One out, one in

If Duran is to leave Villa Park in January, it would surely mean Unai Emery would look to bring another striker to the club as a deputy to Ollie Watkins – the role Duran has played to good effect so far this season.

The Colombian has made 13 Premier League appearances so far this season, all coming from the bench, such is the dominance Watkins has shown in his role as the club’s main number-nine.

Duran has played the backup role well, pitching in with two goals and proving he has what it takes to perform when called upon.

However, with a deal reportedly having been proposed to AC Milan, either Aston Villa or the player’s agent must be unhappy with the current situation, with the latter most likely. If the opportunity is there to play first-team football for a giant like Milan, it would not be a shock to see the striker jump ship.

Despite his role in the squad proving important this season, it would be understandable for the 20-year-old to have become frustrated at the lack of first-team football, particularly in the Premier League, but the form of Wakins means he will have to accept his position or leave.

In other Aston Villa news, a 33% flop may have played his last game for the club.
