Doctor issues injury update on Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Aston Villa...

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings’ injury appears to be more significant than first feared, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert has been keeping tabs on the timely updates the centre-back has provided as he recovers from a ruptured ACL which has ruled him out for the rest of the season.

The 30-year-old picked up an injury on the opening weekend of the season against Newcastle and will play no football until June.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News:

Firstly, I just want to say how glad I am to see Mings being so open and candid with his recovery, the bad and the good.

This is oftentimes what fans don’t see and don’t realise when players through go major injuries so any time a player shows that side, it makes them that much more human to fans.

“As for recovery, a key piece of information is that the injury looks to have been more significant than previously thought so the timeline will be stretched out a bit.

He’s still in the relatively early phases with mobility work and light strengthening.

The England international was the first-choice option at the heart of defence for Unai Emery going into the new season.

Last term, he played in 35 out of 38 Premier League matches for the Villans and improved remarkably under Emery.

Next season, he will be 31 and given how well the likes of Pau Torres, Ezri Konsa and Diego Carlos have been doing recently, it remains to be seen how he finds his way back into the team.

In other Aston Villa news, a Sky Sports pundit has savaged a first-team player and called him “Foolish” after what he did recently.
