Aston Villa would be 100% against ‘money-grabbing’ situation
We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Aston Villa would be 100 per cent against joining the European Super League after a development has emerged, according to Ty Bracey.
The European Court of Justice ruled on 21 December that UEFA and FIFA acted “unlawfully” by blocking the formation of the ESL in 2021.
That then led to A22 Sports Management – backers of the original proposal – releasing revamped plans for a league system that would include 64 men’s clubs and 32 women’s clubs to rival UEFA’s current competitions despite several clubs across Europe pledging their loyalty to the governing body.

Bracey believes the plans are just a “money-grabbing” incentive to ensure Real Madrid and Barcelona can compete with other big clubs and it’s something Villa would “never” sign up to.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “We’d 100 per cent be against it. It’s just a ploy for Real Madrid and Barcelona because the La Liga restrictions are so bad, that’s the only way they can compete and stay at the level of other clubs because their restrictions are a bit harsher than the rest of the leagues.
“They can’t compete and that’s why there’s no money in the pot. Maybe for Real Madrid, but Barcelona are in a financial mess.

“The only reason there’s a Super League is to protect them and ensure they will always have a steady income and that’s all it is. It’s a money-grabbing incentive for them, where they’re always going to have the same income every year regardless of results.
“It would never happen with Villa. Unai Emery said in his press conference that the Premier League is his Super League.”
