Sky Sports journalist shares what Aston Villa want to sign in January
We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Aston Villa are looking to sign a right-back in the January transfer window, according to Dan Bardell.
Matty Cash was the undisputed option on the right-hand side of the defence in the opening few months of the campaign before Ezri Konsa has featured in that position over the past few weeks.
That has fuelled questions over whether Unai Emery will look to bring in a fullback in January, with defender Calum Chambers yet to make a single appearance in the Premier League this season.

Sky Sports journalist Bardell believes that could mean the 28-year-old is moved on in the transfer window as the Villa boss looks to create space for a new arrival.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I think if there’s one area Villa are looking at, it is right-back.
“From what I hear, I don’t think Villa will be massively active in January. But I know that in the last six or seven months, they have been looking at young full-backs in La Liga.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if there was maybe an Alex Moreno-type signing, someone who doesn’t necessarily come into the team straight away.

“Perhaps they could look to move Chambers on as well because he’s not really featured and then that player could come in and take that place.
“Matty Cash is having a good season, it’s just you need different players for different games.”
