Jacob Ramsey is not living up to Jamie Carragher ‘super player’ tag, he needs hauling off at HT of Aston Villa v Sheff Utd
Jacob Ramsey has undoubted talent but he struggled to make a big impact in the first half of Aston Villa v Sheffield United on Friday (22 December).
The Villans’ youth product has not always been in the starting XI this season, with Douglas Luiz, Boubacar Kamara and John McGinn forming a midfield triumvirate.
But with Luiz absent last time out against Brentford and Kamara suspended for this fixture at Villa Park, Ramsey has been afforded a couple of opportunities as of late.

Speaking on co-commentary for Sky Sports‘ coverage of the match, Jamie Carragher lauded the talents of Ramsey.
“Jacob Ramsey hasn’t been in the Villa team too much of late, but he is a super player,” the former Liverpool defender said.
But sadly, Ramsey was not really living up to that “super player” tag put on him by Carragher.
The central midfielder was accurate with only 82 per cent of his passes (SofaScore), meaning that for all of Villa’s possession dominance they were not always able to break through the Blades’ defence.

He lost out in 50 per cent of his ground duels as well, and lost possession on five occasions during the first half.
Moreover, he did not provide any key passes for his teammates, he was dribbled past on one occasion and he failed to muster any attempts at goal of any kind.
Ramsey’s talent is not up for dispute, he is an excellent footballer, but on this occasion, Unai Emery needs to make a change in midfield. They need more verve and drive because they are struggling to lay a glove against the struggling Blades.
In other Aston Villa news, the Villans could miss out on a multi-million windfall after a fresh blow for one player.
