Doctor details worst-case scenario after Ben Mee challenge on Leon Bailey in Aston Villa v Brentford

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Aston Villa...

Aston Villa attacker Leon Bailey could have been ruled out for months had Brentford defender Ben Mee made more intense contact, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that it would’ve been a leg breaker had it caught him right and the Jamaican is fortunate that it did not.

Mee picked up a red card for this challenge as Villa picked up a 2-1 victory at the GTech Community Stadium.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News:

It’s an extremely dangerous tackle with how he’s diving into it and how high it is.

Potentially enough force to break the leg and rule him out for months if he catches it just right.

I believe he had a muscular issue going into the game so don’t think this will aggravate things but it certainly doesn’t help.

Painful for sure with how high up it is and the amount of force.

Bailey came off the bench to provide an assist and did his bit in order to secure the three points for his side.

Unai Emery will be relieved that he brushed off his pre-game issue and did not get the wrong end of Mee’s tackle over the weekend.

It remains to be seen if he is named in the starting eleven in the game against Sheffield United on Friday, 22 December.

In other Aston Villa news, Ian Wright has waxed lyrical over a first-team player and has dubbed him “fantastic” after what he did recently.
