BBC Sport pundit makes ‘outstanding’ prediction ahead of Aston Villa v Sheffield United in Premier League
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton has predicted Aston Villa will continue their “outstanding” momentum by going top of the Premier League with victory over Sheffield United.
The Villans enter Friday’s contest (21 December) on a club record 15-match winning run in the top flight at Villa Park, most recently seeing off Manchester City and Arsenal by the same 1-0 scoreline.
Unai Emery’s side followed that up with a battling 2-1 win away at Brentford last weekend to move up to third in the division, one point behind second-place Liverpool and two off leaders Arsenal.

A victory against bottom side Sheffield United would therefore move them top of the pile outright ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal facing off at Anfield on Saturday (23 December).
And former Villa defender Hutton cannot see anything other than another home victory at Villa Park.
“I think so,” he told Villa News when asked if the Villans will move above Liverpool and Arsenal.
“I think the way Aston Villa are playing in this moment in time, with the confidence they have, they’ve made Villa Park a real fortress.

“To add another win would be just outstanding, especially when we see how difficult each game is in the Premier League.
“With the momentum they’ve got, they’ll definitely be able to win this one.”
Villa follow up the visit of Sheffield United with a trip to Manchester United (26 December) and a home game against Burnley (30 December) before the end of the year.
In other Aston Villa news, a pundit cannot believe the actions of a Villa player and believes they could have “massive” ramifications.
