Aston Villa fans will be ‘cursing’ after FA Cup development

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Aston Villa fans will be “cursing” after being handed a trip to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup third-round, according to Ty Bracey.

It was revealed on 3 December that Villa will head to the Riverside Stadium to play the Championship side on 6 January, with the kick-off time pushed back to 5:30pm.

The competition will provide Unai Emery’s side with another chance to compete for silverware this season, with the club flying high in the Premier League and through to the knockout rounds of the Europa Conference League.

Bracey suggested that the squad selection for the game will depend on fitness at the time, but he expects the Villans to name a strong enough side to earn their place in the next round.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “It’s not a bad fixture, I’ve done Middlesbrough away. For the away fans they’re probably cursing a little bit, it’s a long way to go for a cup game, but we’ll be bang up for it.

“It’s also another chance at silverware, so let’s be in the mix still. We’re obviously still in the mix in Europe, but there’s absolutely no qualms with being involved in another competition. It should be a good game.

“You never know what side will be named, it all depends on legs really. That’s an important factor, who’s looking fit in training and who could do with a rest.

“But we have to put a side out that can compete and win the game, so I expect to see a fairly strong side.”
