Everton named as Aston Villa get to work on selling Leander Dendoncker ahead of January transfer window

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…

Aston Villa are likely to sell Leander Dendoncker if an acceptable offer is made for him in January, according to Alan Hutton.

Dendoncker, 28, has only played nine times in all competitions this season with his four Premier League appearances amounting to no more than just four minutes.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported on 16 November that Dendoncker is no longer in Unai Emery’s plans at Villa Park and the 32-time Belgium international would like to quit the West Midlands club for another team in the Premier League.

It is understood that the Villans’ hierarchy is working on a move for the former Wolves midfielder and while Galatasaray are keen on him, the feeling isn’t mutual due to his desire to stay in England’s top flight.

Hutton believes a team like Everton could be well-suited for Dendoncker.

When asked if he thinks Villa should sell Dendoncker for the right price in January, Hutton told Villa News: “Yes, I would.

I don’t like to call him a stop-gap because he’s a good option and he’s a guy who’s been used in European competition so he’s obviously got ability.

But I just don’t see him forcing his way into this Villa squad at this moment in time.

I think they’re looking to move forward and I don’t think he’s the answer right now.

If they can make money on him and teams like Everton are interested, if the money’s right then they’ll look into it.”

Since joining Villa in September of last year, Dendoncker has played just 30 times in all competitions for the club.

In other Aston Villa news, it is “done” for this central midfielder to quit Villa Park with a permanent transfer deal already agreed.
