Doctor responds to Gabriel Agbonlahor admission on Aston Villa defender Matty Cash and Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur
We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Aston Villa...
Aston Villa defender Matty Cash appeared to have been caught up in the moment in the incident with Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
Cash’s tackle on the Uruguay international will see him being ruled out for a couple of months and the injury expert wants such tackles to be regulated out by the FA in order to avoid such serious setbacks.
Gabriel Agbonlahor also feels for Bentancur and believes that Cash will have reached out to him to apologise.
Speaking about his injury, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News:
“Always difficult for me to assign blame because it’s such an in the moment decision.
“Certainly not a fan of these tackles generally because of the risk involved but it’s more so on the governing body to not incentivise them and in some cases, regulate them out like rugby has done with hip drop tackles for example.
“As for whether Cash contacted Bentancur or not, I honestly have no idea!
“Could certainly see that happening but it may also depend on the relationship they have.“

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou revealed that Bentancur is unlikely to return to first-team action before February.
The midfielder got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and Cash’s intention surely would not have been to injure him.
This is the downside of playing a contact sport and it remains to be seen whether or not the authorities actually do something to change things.
In other Aston Villa news, Ian Wright has waxed lyrical over a first-team player and has dubbed him “fantastic” after what he did recently.
