Ty Bracey reacts to controversial incident in Aston Villa v Bournemouth, ‘Absolute Shambles’

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

The decision to not send Antoine Semenyo off for Bournemouth against Aston Villa was a “shambles”, according to Ty Bracey.

The 23-year-old winger pulled the shirt of Villa winger Leon Bailey and, although a foul was awarded, referee Thomas Brammall decided not to hand him a second yellow card in the 2-2 draw on Sunday (3 December).

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher said it was the wrong decision, adding that the Cherries winger was the “luckiest man in Bournemouth not to be sent off” following the incident.

Bracey believes the officiating “hasn’t been great” in the top flight this season as he called for more consistency across the board.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “It’s a shambles. Again, those are the types of things that can cost you games, so I’m obviously not very happy about that.

“But it swings in roundabouts, there will be times where it’ll be in our favour and times when it won’t. A little bit disappointing, to be honest.

“The standard of officiating hasn’t been great. You obviously had that incident with Haaland and it was just an absolute shambles.

“Don’t get me wrong, I do feel for the refs to an extent, but they need to be given the training to do their job properly.

“If they can’t do their job properly, they need to be removed. It’s the same in any job. We all have a job to do and it’s just stupidity really. There just needs to be some consistency across the board, that would be nice.”
