Leon Bailey surely in line for new Aston Villa contract after 100% display in 2-1 win v Tottenham

Aston Villa continued their impressive run of form under Unai Emery with a fantastic 2-1 win against Tottenham on Sunday (26 November).

And one such decision involved the introduction of Leon Bailey at half-time, with the winger replacing Matty Cash, who had a very poor 45 minutes as he completed just 69% of his passes and won just two of his six ground duels [Sofascore].

The Jamaica international may not have got on the scoresheet, but he certainly troubled the Tottenham defence, with Bailey having one shot on target and two shots blocked, while he completed three of his four dribble attempts, as per Sofascore.

The attacker was unlucky not to have found the back of the net as he hit the woodwork with an effort in North London, but again he impressed elsewhere with the ball as he registered one key pass and completed his only long ball attempt (100%).

With Bailey’s contract expiring in June 2025 [Transfermarkt], Bailey’s future at Villa Park may not be at the forefront of Emery’s mind, but it should be something that the man in the dugout is at least thinking about.

The Spaniard will not want to lose his talented winger, who is surely in line for a contract extension after his fine displays this season, both as a starter and from the bench.

Bailey boasts six goals and six assists from his 18 Villa appearances in all competitions this season, playing a key role in his club’s success in the Premier League and the Europa Conference League.

In other Aston Villa news, Emery may be left with no choice but to axe one player after his 0% shocker against Tottenham.
