Ty Bracey names two Aston Villa fringe players in contention to start ‘important’ showdown v AZ
We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Calum Chambers and Leander Dendoncker could be in line to start for Aston Villa against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday (9 October), according to Ty Bracey.
The 28-year-old duo have largely been on the periphery of the first team so far this season after struggling to force their way into Unai Emery’s plans.
A victory over the Dutch club in the Europa Conference League fixture could potentially open up a six-point gap on Bosnian side Zrinjski in third place.

Bracey believes it’s an opportunity to hand some fringe players some extra minutes in the side, but he stressed the importance of picking up all three points at Villa Park.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I think we need to rest some legs. I think you’ll probably see Bailey start. Bailey is always bang up for it at Villa Park.
“We might see changes in defence and might see Dendoncker or Chambers. I think you’ll see a few changes from the weekend definitely.

“It’s an opportunity to give some fringe players minutes, but it’s also important that we win that game. We’re not plain sailing through yet, we need another win, so winning is equally as important as resting the players that need a rest.
“I think if we win this one, that’s pretty much us through but, again, we’ve just got to be bang on it and get the points regardless of what changes are made. We gave them a good hiding at their ground, so we need to give them a good hiding at ours as well.”
