Emiliano Martinez in 3/10 shocker, Lucas Digne 6/10 – Aston Villa player ratings v Nottingham Forest
Aston Villa put in a poor performance as they fell to defeat against Nottingham Forest on Sunday (5 November).
Goals in either half from Ola Aina and Orel Mangala were enough to secure a 2-0 victory for the visitors at the City Ground.
Unai Emery will have been disappointed with his side’s display as they suffered their first defeat in the Premier League in seven matches.

Here Aston Villa News rates the Villa players out of 10 for their performances against Forest.
Emiliano Martinez – 3
Martinez couldn’t do much about the first goal, but he will have been incredibly disappointed to have let Mangala’s strike past him after getting a strong hand to it. The Argentine made just one save from the three shots on target he faced as he failed to reach his usually high standards [SofaScore].
Matty Cash (Off for Tielemans ’59) – 4
The defender was beaten too easily in the build-up to Forest’s opener and that was the story of his game as he made zero tackles across the afternoon before being replaced with just over half an hour left to play.
Ezri Konsa – 5
It wasn’t the worst performance from Konsa as he couldn’t do anything about either of the two goals and he won all three of his duels. He also made two interceptions and one tackle.
Pau Torres – 5
It was a similar story for Torres, with both of the goals Villa conceded coming from long-range. The Spaniard had 97 touches of the ball – recording an 89 per cent pass accuracy – and he made five clearances.
Lucas Digne – 6
Digne was definitely the best of the defenders as he looked to get forward at every opportunity, finding a teammate with four of his 11 crosses from the left-hand side.

Boubacar Kamara (Off for Carlos ’78) – 4
Kamara wasn’t quite as solid as he usually is as he was booked for a rash challenge on Anthony Elanga in the second half. The midfielder won just five of his nine duels and made just one tackle.
Douglas Luiz (Off for Dendoncker ’86) – 4
The midfielder recorded an impressive pass accuracy of 95 per cent, but he didn’t have quite as big of an impact going forward as he perhaps did in previous weeks. The Brazilian made no key passes and had zero shots on target.
John McGinn – 4
McGinn got about the pitch and looked to make things happen as he played two key passes during the game. But he will have been disappointed to win just two of his seven duels.
Nicolo Zaniolo (Off for Bailey ’45) – 4
The attacking midfielder didn’t track back well enough as he showed his defensive weaknesses for the opening goal. The Italian was subbed off at half-time after failing to find a teammate with his only cross of the game.
Moussa Diaby – 4
Diaby wasn’t his usual self as he struggled to get involved and have an impact on the game. He failed to record a single successful dribble from his three attempts.
Ollie Watkins – 4
As the focal point of the Villa attack, it was a disappointing performance from Watkins. The forward won just one of his four duels and had just one shot on target.
Substitutes
Leon Bailey (on for Zaniolo ’45) – 4
The winger didn’t have too much of an impact as he recorded just a 75 per cent pass success rate.
Youri Tielemans (On for Cash ’59) – 5
The midfielder upped the tempo a little bit for Villa as he looked to get on the ball, recording 50 touches in just over half an hour.
Diego Carlos (on for Kamara ’78) – N/A
Leander Dendoncker (on for Luiz ’86) – N/A
