Ty Bracey: ‘No reason’ Aston Villa can’t get Champions League despite ‘terrible’ early-season struggles

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Aston Villa have “no reason” not to earn Champions League qualification this season but must avoid “silly” mistakes, according to Ty Bracey.

After a crucial win against fellow European chasers West Ham on Sunday (22 October), Villa moved to fifth in the Premer League table – just four points behind league leaders Tottenham. With impressive wins against Chelsea, Brighton and the Hammers, Unai Emery has proved he can mix with the elite.

Per The Athletic (24 October), Aston Villa’s form has been the fourth-best since Emery’s arrival at the club just over a year ago. The Spaniard has proved his worth through consistency and boosted with an improved squad this campaign, European qualification seems like a minimum.

Bracey claims that while returning to the Champions League is on the cards this season, Villa need to avoid slip-ups. In their next three league fixtures, they face Luton Town, Nottingham Forest and Fulham – games Champions League qualifiers can’t lose.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “It’s important that we win these fixtures. We can’t drop points to teams we wouldn’t expect to. It’s football, you can have surprises, but hard work beats talent.

“Every game’s a cup final in my opinion. We have to be on our A-game and it’s important we keep up with those teams and not drop silly points.

“There’s no reason why we can’t get into the top four. Obviously, we had a terrible game against Newcastle at the start of the season. We’ve had some bad luck with injuries., but there’s no reason we can’t do it.”

In other Aston Villa news, the club are in danger of losing a record-breaking sensation but Unia Emery doesn’t need him.
