Aston Villa ace Lucas Digne could have been out for 3 months after Chelsea man Malo Gusto challenge – Injury Expert

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Aston Villa...

Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne could have been out for nearly three months with Chelsea defender Malo Gusto’s challenge, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that an ankle inversion sprain would’ve kept him out for up to eight weeks while a leg break, including nerve or artery damage, would’ve seen him miss even more game time.

The Blues right-back was given a red card after VAR asked referee Jarred Gillett to check the screen after he brandished a yellow card.

Speaking about the incident, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News:

The two distinct possibilities there are an inversion ankle sprain which can range from a week out to 6-8 weeks out if there’s a grade 3 rupture and associated fracture.

“The other, if Gusto had caught him higher, is a leg break but the variance on that really depends on the extent of the injury and it could’ve been over 8 weeks too.

This could range from how bad the fracture is if there’s any artery or nerve involvement and things like that.

However, he appears to have come unscathed from that so it’s good news for the club.

Chelsea have not decided to appeal the decision of the 20-year-old being sent off at Stamford Bridge.

This perhaps means that they agreed with a decision and did not have any grounds for an appeal.

Digne looked uncomfortable after the collision but appeared to brush it off as the game progressed.

Unai Emery will be counting on the Frenchman more so given Alex Moreno’s recent injury update.

In other Aston Villa news, a senior attacker is now a doubt for the upcoming games after he suffered a Grade 3 muscle tear.
