Pau Torres will ‘definitely come good’ for Aston Villa despite defensive woes against Liverpool

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Despite his poor performance against Liverpool, Pau Torres will “definitely come good” for Aston Villa, according to Ty Bracey.

The Villans’ new £33million man made a series of errors that led to two Liverpool goals on Sunday’s 3-0 loss (3 September), namely being caught out by Mohamed Salah to concede the corner which led to Dominik Szoboszlai’s opener and losing Darwin Nunez in the build-up to the second goal.

Villa have bookended the opening four Premier League fixtures with poor defensive performances, with their 5-1 loss to Newcastle the first sign of defensive frailty. While Unai Emery’s side has put in some excellent performances this season, many have questioned if their backline is working for them.

However, Bracey has tapered criticism of Aston Villa’s defence and backed the Spaniard to settle in the “completely different” Premier League, suggesting that the Reds were better than the Villans “on the day”.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “We had our chances, but Liverpool had chances that they missed as well. Obviously, you can say that the first goal was potentially offside and that Matty Cash was unfortunate to put one in the back of his own net.

“But Liverpool were just better than us on the day. I am not worried about the defence though. It takes time.

“Pau Torres does just need to get used to the intensity of the Premier League. It’s a completely different ball game to the Spanish league, but he will definitely come good, I have no doubt about that.”
