Aston Villa transfer news as Unai Emery to hand Seb Revan perfect chance with loan exit

Aston Villa are set to send youngster Seb Revan on loan to the Championship after he impressed against Hibernian, according to Tom Collomosse.

The Daily Mail reporter shared via his Twitter account on Friday (1 September) that the 20-year-old looks set to begin a temporary switch to the Championship this summer, with Rotherham United interested in signing the highly-rated defender.

Revan played the full 90 minutes as Unai Emery’s side thrashed Hibernian at Villa Park on Thursday (31 August) and impressed at left-back in what was his first-ever start for the first team of the midlands club.

In the 2021/22 campaign, the 20-year-old spent six months on loan with Grimsby Town and Hereford and so far that and his one Villa appearance are his only experiences of first-team football, so a move to the Millers would represent a huge step up for the defender.

Revan has impressed in the Premier League 2, already making two appearances in the youth competition this season and last time out he managed 16 appearances and registered five goal involvements from his defensive position.

The task of playing against opposition lower in the English football pyramid won’t be completely alien to Raven as he did make two appearances for Villa’s youth side in the Papa John’s Trophy, scoring once against Crawley Town as he captained the young side.

Right move for the club

Raven may have made his first appearance for the first team at Villa Park, but the decision for Lucas Digne to remain with Emery’s side will likely see his opportunities limited as the season progresses to cameo appearances from the bench of domestic cup matches.

Currently the 20-year-old is Digne’s only competition on the left side of defence because of Alex Moreno’s injury, but once he returns to full fitness it will likely be the two more senior players who share duties across the Premier League and the Europa Conference League.

The best way for defenders to learn their trade is through playing matches and Revan will have likely already learnt as much as he possibly can from playing youth football. A move to the New York Stadium will help him learn his craft.

Rotherham look likely to be fighting towards the bottom end of the Championship this season and the 20-year-old defender will gain a lot of experience from being a part of that fight for survival, under a well-rated manager in Matt Taylor.

Emery is giving Revan the perfect chance, here.
