Marcos Acuna’s failed move ‘gutting’ but Aston Villa must target a ‘hard face’

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Macros Acuna’s transfer-ending injury is “gutting”, but Aston Villa should still be in the market for a “hard face”, according to Ty Bracey.

The Argentine had been heavily linked with a move to Villa Park, with Fabrizio Romano claiming (17 August) that the World Cup winner had agreed to personal terms with the club, but since Sevilla confirmed his hamstring injury (24 August) the deal looks unlikely.

Villa have been in the market for full-backs this summer, with Tribal Football (24 August) linking Barcelona full-back Marcos Alonso with a move while the Daily Mail claim (20 August) Villa have opened talks with Arsenal regarding Nuno Tavares’ availability.

Bracey claims that while missing out on Acuna is “gutting”, another new signing could bring the desired “fierceness” to the side. However, Villa should still consider this needed attribute in transfer targets before the window shuts.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “Acuna’s a winner. He’s a World Cup winner and he’s played at the highest level of football competition.

“It’s a shame for Villa, but that deal was only going to happen if Lucas Digne was to leave. It’s one of those things. Is it gutting? Yes. But if Lucas Digne is going to be playing like he has, then I see no problem.

“While Acuna would bring that aggression, I think Zaniolo brings that too.

But we do need a hard face in the team who is not afraid to put in a naughty tackle here and there and has a bit of fierceness about his game.”

In other Aston Villa news, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Villans are considering a move for an Arsenal full-back.
