Aston Villa worlds away financially after mid-week European development

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Aston Villa must not downplay their Europa Conference League success against Hibernian despite the financial disparity between the two clubs, according to Ty Bracey.

Villa were expected victors against the Scottish side at Easter Park as an Ollie Watkins hattrick, a Douglas Luiz penalty and a Leon Bailey strike ended the game 5-0 while killing any Hibs hope of qualification to the Conference League group stages.

Much has been reported regarding the financial disparity between the two sides. As a Premier League outfit, Villa’s wage bill and turnover would eclipse the likes of Hibernian as the Scottish league just does not garner the same level of worldwide exposure and financial gain.

However, Bracey has downplayed the importance of these claims, noting that while he is aware of the financial differences between the sides, Villa can only face who’s in front of them and claims the wage bill is required to compete in the Premier League.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I understand the financial difference between Villa and Hibs, but it’s not the fault of Villa as to who they get drawn against!

“We can only beat the teams in front of us. Unfortunately for Hibs, we were the team they came up against. I understand the wage bill differences, the leagues being worlds apart and the finances being worlds apart.

“But if you’re competing in the Premier League, you have to have a large wage bill, it’s as simple as that!”

In other Aston Villa news, Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell has claimed that Villa can’t upgrade in one key area.
