Aston Villa transfer news as Michael Bridges shares update on club’s pursuit of Nuno Tavares
Aston Villa are interested in signing Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares, according to Michael Bridges.
The Sky Sports journalist reported on 24 August that the Portuguese left-back is available on a permanent deal or a lone with a buy clause included in the agreement.
Unai Emery is eyeing a move for the 23-year-old to add his left-sided defensive options following the injury to Tryone Mings and the ongoing speculation around Lucas Digne.
Unconvincing
Villa have made it clear over the past few weeks that they want to bring in another left-back after they have been linked with a few different players.
They made an offer to sign Marcos Acuna from Sevilla, but the club weren’t able to agree on a price with the La Liga side for the Argentina international.
That has led to the Villans turning their attention to Tavares, who has been largely unconvincing during his time at Arsenal since signing from Benfica in 2021 for a reported £6.8million.
It looks as though the Portuguese could be brought in as competition for Digne after Emery confirmed following Villa’s win over Hibernian on 23 August that he is likely to stay at Villa Park despite being linked with French club Nice.

After impressing on loan with Marseille last season, where he scored six goals, the Evening Standard reported on 16 August that the Gunners are looking for a fee in the region of £22million for Tavares.
It’s unlikely the club are going to pay that much to sign the left-back outright, so perhaps a loan move would be the best step before deciding to bring him on a permanent deal.
In other Aston Villa news, an investigation is underway into one player following an incident after the Everton victory.
