Aston Villa sent message over ‘unplayable’ Lucas Digne amid latest transfer exit speculation

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Lucas Digne should stay at Aston Villa following his “unplayable” run of form despite his links with a move away, according to Ty Bracey.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Ligue 1 side Nice, with RMC Sport reporter Fabrice Hawkins claiming (20 August) that a deal was close. However, following his excellent performance against Hibernian in the Europa Conference League, many have thought twice about letting the 30-year-old go.

Digne earned himself a hattrick of assists at Easter Road and proved essential in Villa’s 5-0 domination of the Scottish outfit, which could either be a statement of intent regarding his desire to fight for a position or an advert for prospective new clubs.

Bracey claims that the “unplayable” left-back should “definitely” stay if he continues his run of form, while the new signings around him have allowed him to be more of an attacking threat for the Aston Villa side.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “When you’re in the shop window, that’s when you start performing. If he can keep that run of form up then he’s unplayable, he’s doing really well.

“At this stage, it doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere but if he does it will probably go down to the final day of the window.

“I’d like to think that he’s giving his all in games but we’re managing to create a lot of space on the left-hand side with Pau Torres at left centre-back.

“It’s one of these things, however, that if he’s playing well to stay, then great. But if he’s playing well to leave then getting his wages off the bill and getting a fee is a win-win.

“But based on his current form, I’d definitely like for Digne to stay.”

In other Aston Villa news, Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell has praised Villa’s “unique” new signing.
