Philippe Coutinho transfer derailed after Aston Villa development

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…

Alan Hutton doubts Philippe Coutinho will leave Aston Villa before the transfer window ends after he suffered an injury in the win over Everton.

Coutinho, 31, was subbed into Sunday’s win over Everton in the 63rd minute but he only lasted 20 minutes before he was forced off the Villa Park pitch.

The exitt-linked Brazilian playmaker looked to be in a lot of discomfort when he was helped off and Hutton reckons that this injury will derail any chances of a sale going through before the transfer window ends.

“I don’t think it will happen now,” Hutton told Villa News when speaking about the chances of Coutinho leaving.

I don’t know exactly what injury it is but he looked in real pain. He came in and had to be subbed off with some help getting off the field.

You could see it in his face. When you see that kind of reaction, you know something bad has happened and I wish him well in his recovery from whatever it may be.

If it is something long term then he’ll be at Villa for the foreseeable future.

It’s a shame because we know how talented he is and what he can give, even if it is off the bench.

Hopefully, he’ll be back as soon as possible.”

Fabrizio Romano reported on 19 August that Qatari clubs have shown an interest in signing Coutinho.

He reported that Saudi Arabian clubs had also made approaches for the former Liverpool and Barcelona star.

It remains to be seen whether or not those moves now go ahead.
