Aston Villa in talks over a move for Sevilla left-back Marcos Acuna
Aston Villa have shown an interest in signing Sevilla defender Marcos Acuna, according to Matteo Moretto.
The Relevo journalist tweeted on 14 August that talks are ongoing between the Villans and the La Liga outfit over the Argentina international making a move to Villa Park.
Unai Emery is looking to bring in the 31-year-old as he aims to add defensive reinforcements following the opening-day defeat to Newcastle United on 12 August.
Experience
Villa are on the lookout for left-sided defenders after Tyrone Mings suffered a “significant” knee injury in the game against the Magpies at the weekend.
Although he is primarily a centre-back, he offers cover at left-back having played in the position a number of times throughout his career and that option will now be closed to Emery for a while.
That is where Acuna, who claimed Europa League success with Sevilla last season, comes in to offer plenty of experience to fight with Lucas Digne for a starting spot on the left side of the backline.

The Argentine won the World Cup with his country last year after featuring in six out of the seven games during the competition on the way to lifting the trophy.
He also offers great experience at club level, having made 386 career appearances, while adding 34 goals and 63 assists to prove he’s not just a defender but also has plenty to offer going forwards.
In other Aston Villa news, the club are hoping to secure the signing of a midfielder this week.
