Aston Villa fans to love Kyle Walker return amid Manchester City exit development

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…

Alan Hutton would love for Aston Villa to re-sign Kyle Walker this summer but admits the Manchester City right-back is unlikely to join anyone but Bayern Munich.

The Mirror reported on 15 July that Walker, 33, is looking to leave The Etihad this summer despite being offered a two-year extension to his contract, which is currently due to expire next year.

It is understood that he’s edging closer to a move to Bayern Munich but Aston Villa have found themselves in need of a new right-back this summer after Ashley Young left to join Everton on a free transfer.

Hutton wants a new right-back at Villa Park and while he believes the fans would love for Walker to return, he doubts he’ll turn down the opportunity to play for Bayern.

“In his loan spell from Tottenham, he was outstanding,” Hutton told Villa News.

He was a young kid then and was just bursting onto the scene like a flying winger.

I’m sure the fans would be more than happy to see that.

It’s probably a situation at Villa where they need to bring in a right-back. Ashley Young has left and Matty Cash is there so they probably need somebody in to help in that area.

I’m not sure if I’d see him going to Villa. That’s not a slight on Villa but if there’s an opportunity to get to Bayern Munich – an iconic Champions League club – that’s something he could fancy.

For me, I’d want to stay at Manchester City after what they’ve done but I understand the opportunity to move to the likes of Bayern.

You learn a different language and a different culture. It’s always good to experience something like that in your football club. It will be good for him.

He’s 33 and he’s not even lost a yard of pace yet, which is incredible. He must be looking after himself.”

Walker played 18 times, scoring two goals and supplying two assists, for Aston Villa while on loan from Spurs in the second half of the 2010/11 season.

Ge left Spurs in 2017 to join Man City, where he’s won five Premier League titles, the FA Cups twice and the 2022/23 Champions League.
