Pau Torres to jet into Birmingham to complete Aston Villa transfer as medical update emerges from Spain
Villarreal defender Pau Torres will jet into Birmingham on Tuesday to undergo a medical at Aston Villa, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Spanish newspaper reported on 11 July that Torres, 26, will sign a five-year deal at Villa Park once he passes his medical checks and complete his £31.9million transfer to the Premier League.
The centre-back has been a standout player for his hometown club since breaking into the first team six years ago, making 173 appearances in the iconic yellow shirt.

Statement
The potential signing of Torres is a real coup for Villa, given that he has been linked with a number of the biggest clubs in European football over the past few years.
It will also see the Spanish international link up with former boss Unai Emery, who he played under for two years at Villarreal, where the pair claimed the Europa League trophy in 2021 following a penalty shootout victory over Manchester United.

Despite only being 26 years of age, the central defender has bags of experience under his belt, having featured heavily domestically and in Europe for the Yellow Submarines, as well as racking up 23 caps for Spain.
While Torres is more than adequate in performing his defensive duties on the floor and in the air, his ability to bring the ball forward and play out from the back will provide something different to Emery’s other defensive options.
The move shows how important securing a place in the Europa Conference League was for Villa and this signing may encourage more quality players to join an exciting project at Villa Park this summer.
In other Aston Villa news, Emery must not waste valuable time in selling this big-name Villa star.
