Tyrone Mings to feel heat at Aston Villa as £30million medical news emerges
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton is thrilled to see Aston Villa signing Villarreal and Spain centre-back Pau Torres for just £30million.
The Sun reported on 29 June that the 26-year-old is set to move to Villa Park in a “huge coup” for manager Unai Emery.
It is understood that Torres has agreed personal terms and the Express & Star has reported on 5 July that he’s due to undergo a medical in the coming days before finalising his move to the West Midlands.

Torres is currently on holiday, which is what is holding up the deal currently. However, there are not expected to be any problems between now and the official confirmation.
Hutton feel the fee being paid for Torres, which could rise to £35million [E&S], is a great bit of business by his former club but he admits that Tyrone Mings will now start to feel the pressure over his place in the squad.
“It’s really good value,” Hutton told Villa News.
“This guy has been one of the most outstanding footballers, defensively, in La Liga.

“Villa have done really well getting him. There’s always been a lot of competition but they’ve been willing to pay the money.
“He brings something different and obviously I feel for Tyrone Mings because he’s had an outstanding season and he’s a leader in his own right.
“I think Torres gives you that as well because he’s left-sided and he’s quite happy to come out with the ball. He’s a leader too.
“You need that competition in your squad if you want to reach the next level. You can’t just have 15 players you rely on, you need a really strong squad to compete and I think that’s what Unai Emery’s building at the moment.
“Everyone will have to be at the top of their game if they want to play.”
In other Aston Villa news, the Villans have been tipped to sign this international captain with a “strange” clause in his contract.
