Aston Villa will only sell Emi Martinez with ‘record-breaking’ £75m+ fee if ‘clubs come knocking’ – Ty Bracey

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Ty Bracey believes Aston Villa would have to receive a record-breaking fee in the region of £75million to even consider selling Emi Martinez this summer.

The Mirror recently reported (12 May) that Chelsea are set to battle Manchester United for the signature of the Argentine international in the upcoming transfer window.

The Villa goalkeeper’s stock has risen dramatically since scooping up the Golden Glove at the Qatar World Cup and playing a crucial role in Argentina’s penalty shoot-out victory over France in the final, where he saved two penalties.

Since then, the 30-year-old has been a major cog in the dramatic turnaround under Unai Emery that has seen Aston Villa move from a relegation-threatened side up to the cusp of European football.

So far this season, Martinez has kept 11 clean sheets from 34 appearances Premier League appearances.

“Emi loves Villa, and Villa loves Emi,” Bracey exclusively told Villa News.

“He is massively loved by the fans, and he has just won a World Cup and now wants to win stuff in European football, and rightly so.

“I think we are definitely on the right trajectory to get there, but if he is going to leave, it will be a record-breaking fee for a goalkeeper.

“It isn’t what we value him at, it’s what is the cost of replacing a World Cup-winning goalkeeper, that’s the question that you have to ask.

“It’s similar to Grealish. It’s how much does it cost to replace them.

“I think if he is going to leave, which I don’t think he will, it will be £75million plus if people are going to come knocking.”

Aston Villa currently sit 8th in the Premier League, level on points with Spurs, with just two games of the campaign remaining.
