Aston Villa: Nassef Sawiris strikes behind-the-scenes agreement, BBC pundit thrilled

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park

Alan Hutton is a fan of the partnership struck up between Aston Villa and ZED FC as it could lead to some of Egypt’s best young talent heading to B6.

Earlier this month, Villa announced the partnership on their official website with chairman Nassef Sawiris hailing the new “three-way collaboration” which also includes Portuguese side Vitoria SC

Sawiris is a member of the wealthiest family in Egypt and it seems as though the link to ZED FC is already being utilised with “highly-rated left winger” Omar Khedr undergoing a trial in the West Midlands [BirminghamLive].

Although Hutton admits his knowledge of Egyptian football is limited, he does believe that Villa’s links to the African nation could prove fruitful over time.

“I don’t really know too much about Egyptian football if I’m honest but any sort of talent coming through, you’ve got the likes of Ahmed Elmohamady who’s still there in the background too. He might be looking at certain players coming through to help the club,” Hutton told Villa News.

If there’s any sort of talent that you can bring over, that partnership will help boost the Aston Villa name globally. It doesn’t do any harm so I think it’s a good thing.

We’ll have to wait and see because I don’t know too much about it so we’ll have to see how it develops. Ultimately, it can be a good thing.”

As well as Elmohamady, Villa have also had Egypt international Mahmoud Trezeguet on their books recently.

In other Aston Villa news, the club has been told to seal the re-signing of an expensive player amid transfer news.
